Radon and Gas Membranes

Methane gas

A high concentration of methane gas in a building must be controlled to avoid explosion by ignition. There are several examples of explosions in houses caused by high concentrations of methane gas. One of the most cost-effective methods to prevent gas from entering the house is to use a high performance gas resistant membrane. The membrane must form a completely tight barrier between the ground and the foundation of the house. The installation of the barrier must be done carefully so the gas cannot enter via overlaps and pipe penetrations that are not carefully sealed. To prevent a gas built-up beneath the membrane, it is necessary to create a ventilation system so the gas can disperse into the atmosphere

The gas membranes from Monarflex a/s are developed specially for contaminated ground caused by chemicals or high concentrations of methane gasses. The products are all reinforced for higher strength and have a thick aluminium foil as a dependent gas barrier. The membranes are resistant to most chemicals. Produced from LDPE, installation in low temperatures is possible without cracking. The Monarflex membranes can endure heavy traffic from equipment during installation and concrete can be poured directly onto the membrane. A broad accessory range with pre-pressed Top Hats for sealing of pipes and other penetrations and double-sided butyl tapes forms a dependable gas system.

Radon
Radon is everywhere and cannot be entirely removed from a property but the level can be reduced substantially below those considered to be harmful to health. A house actually acts as a chimney. Due to heating of the air, it rises to the top of the building, thereby creating a suction of air from the lower part of the house, towards the higher part of the house. This actually means that air from the ground beneath the house is sucked into the house through numerous openings. The most efficient and cost effective way of reducing the radon level in a house is to reduce its initial entry into the building by installing a mechanical barrier combined with a ventilation system.

Monarflex a/s has developed 3 special reinforced membranes that meet the high requirements for radon protection and at the same time have enhanced strength properties to ensure a problem-free installation.
All membranes are produced from low density polyethylene (LDPE) ensuring flexibility and strength even at low temperatures. Since the membrane consist of several layers, there is no risk of cracking.
